How do I obtain a referral for specialty care?

Your Primary Care Physician (PCP) is responsible for coordinating any medically needed referrals for specialty care.  SJHAP has comprehensive network of over 500 Specialists. Depending on the specialty required, you may need an authorized referral from your PCP, or your insurance plan to access these services. However, most referrals to in-network SJHAP Specialists are given at the time of your PCP appointment and do not require prior approval from the SJHAP Clinical Services Department.

Which hospitals are affiliated with SJHAP?

Where do I go for Urgent Care services after-hours?

An urgent problem is defined as an injury or condition needing prompt medical attention. Urgent care services are available at the Urgent Care Center. Services are available on a walk-in basis for problems that are urgent, but not life-threatening after normal business hours. During regular office hours, please contact your Primary Care Physician for medical care first.

The Urgent Care Center is located at 2501 E. Chapman Avenue in Orange, directly east of the Newport (55) Freeway. The Urgent Care Center is open Monday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Pediatric Walk-in Center is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Where do I go for Emergency Care Services?

An emergency is a condition that would lead a prudent lay person to believe that failure to get immediate medical care could result in: serious jeopardy to the health of the patient or fetus (if patient is pregnant); serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part; or serious disfigurement.

If you experience an injury or condition that could endanger your health if not immediately treated, you should seek emergency care at the nearest emergency room and then notify your Primary Care Physician as soon as possible. Remember, if your injury or condition is life-threatening, call 911.
